Marketing with ISO
The achievement of ISO Certification sets a company apart from its competitors and can help get new customers while retaining existing ones. There are numerous effective ways to let customers know how and why registration makes your company and its products better.
Once a company achieves certification to an ISO standard, it should notify its customers via Press Releases, informative emails, and other means. Such messages should stress the effort that went into the creation of a top-notch quality system, and describe the benefits to the company and its customers. When appropriate, banners may be displayed at your place of business and at trade shows, proclaiming that the company has an ISO-certified quality management system. Business cards, brochures, stationary and product packaging may all be used to publicize a company's achievement of ISO registration. Once registered, many firms have company-wide parties to publicize and celebrate their achievement.
Caution: There are specific rules governing the use of the term ISO and the ISO logo. Probably the most serious mistake is to claim that one's product is "ISO-Certified". Certification / Registration applies only to a your quality management system, not to your products or services. Company publications, marketing materials and packaging must never use language that could be misinterpreted to mean that one's products or services are ISO-certified, and in fact the Registrar may withdraw a firm's registered status if it engages in such practices. For these and other reasons, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) forbids the use of its copyrighted ISO logo. For specific guidance on this issue, consult the ISO website or ask your Registrar.
