Step by Step to ISO 9001:2008 Registration
1. Buy a copy of the ISO 9001:2008 Standard. Learn what is required and how it applies to your operations.
2. If you will be using a Consultant, conduct interviews to select one that you are comfortable with.
3. Select a Registrar.
4. Create ISO 9001:2008-compliant Policy and Procedures Manuals.
5. Train your employees. Explain how and why the standard will help them and the company.
6. Implement your Quality System Policy and Procedures.
7. Conduct a full Internal Audit to judge how you're doing.
8. If the Internal Audit finds non-conformances; plan and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions.
9. Conduct a comprehensive Management Review Meeting to analyze your progress and determine if any revisions to your procedures are needed.
10. Have your Consultant or the Registrar perform an on-site Pre-Assessment (optional).
11. Submit Your Policy and Procedures Manuals for the Document Review. (Some Registrars may perform the Document Review during the on-site Audit.)
12. Have the Registrar perform the on-site Registration Audit.
13. If the Registration Audit finds non-conformances; plan and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions.
14. Once any non-conformances have been resolved, the Registration Certificate is Issued and the Registration Cycle Begins. (Typically a 3-year cycle, with brief Surveillance Audits once or twice a year.)
You should consult your Registrar for more information.)
